1967 Porsche 911

This 1967 Porsche 911 was the very first project for Across the Pond, and it set the tone for everything that followed. The car arrived as a fully assembled but heavily modified vehicle—it had aftermarket race flares, fiberglass bumpers, and numerous non-original components. We fully disassembled the car and began cutting out rusted sections. Once all the rot was removed, we were left with little more than the roof, the gauge panel, and a few pieces of internal structure. This car required extensive metalwork, including: Full floor pan replacement Suspension pan replacement Both quarter panels replaced Both doorskins and fenders replaced Both rear frame rails replaced Inner and outer rockers replaced on both sides Front and rear lids replaced Because it was a 1967 model, many reproduction parts needed modifications to match the original specifications. For example, the rear wiper mechanism on a true '67 differs from what's typically found on short-wheelbase replacement deck lids, so adjustments were made for accuracy. Once the metalwork—most of which involved replacing outer skins—was complete bodywork and paint followed relatively quickly. With the paint finished, mechanicals were handed over to John Truman Enterprises (JTE), who rebuilt and installed the engine and transmission, and handled alignment. Air Cooled Auto recovered the seats and installed the headliner, while we completed the remaining interior work, including carpet and trim installation. The car was finished to a high standard and made its show debut soon after completion, winning First in Class at the Cincinnati Concours d’Elegance in 2018. It was an incredibly rewarding result for our very first project—a restoration that remains close to our hearts.

The 1967 Porsche 911 represents an iconic evolution of the original 911, blending Porsche’s race-bred engineering with everyday drivability. Featuring a 2.0L flat-six engine producing 130 horsepower in the base model and up to 160 horsepower in the high-performance 911S, it offered a lightweight, rear-engine layout that delivered precise handling and a thrilling driving experience. This model introduced key refinements, including the Fuchs alloy wheels on the 911S, and marked the final year before the introduction of the longer-wheelbase chassis in 1969. Revered for its purity, mechanical simplicity, and timeless design, the ‘67 911 remains a sought-after classic among enthusiasts and collectors.
